Capstone Reflection

Over the semester I have faced many challenges when it came to working on my capstone. But now that it is all over with, I can say that I have had a successful semester and am proud of what I have accomplished. I was able to create a really awesome website that displayed my project with the intent to inform the community about how to have good health. I am happy for the skill I have learned and am more than glad to use them next semester at Texas Tech. Go Red Raiders!

Awesome Presentation

My capstone presentation was awesome because i had a great layout. I had my computer with my website pulled up and had my flyers at hand. I gave out fruit to the interested students and taught people about living a healthy and active lifestyle. It was great and im glad its over with!

Perfect Presentation

1. I once had to sit through a 2 hour lecture, I spent over an hour sleeping in the lecture because I was bored out of my mind. I did like the topic the lecture covering, but because the speaker and the slides were monotone. I was in another lecture once, where the presenter had an interesting voice,which kept me attentive. Having a presenter with an interesting and fun voice makes me want to learn more and pay more attention.

2. I can prevent multitasks by forcing them to be involved in my presentation. This can be done by asking them questions and having them actively engage in conversion when presenting my capstone.  This will be done by asking questions at the beginning and closer towards the middle of the presentation to keep them involved throughout the whole.

3. I would use large pictures and colorful bold text to support exercise aids. It is easy to aid the audience by having bold and outlandish imagery that keep them involved.

4. I will have to change my presentation to display large bold images. These images will capture the audience and promote my overall message. It is a great visual aid to display large and bold fonts to keep the reader involved.

5. I should toss my presentation because my presentation contains too much text and does not give the audience my point/purpose in a timely presentation. Adding large bold visuals that relate to the purpose will help the audience understand my purpose in a more timely manner.

My purpose

Today there is an increasing issue with the population of teens being diagnosed with diabetes. As the generation has become more technological dependent, lazyness has increased. Lack of exercise and diet has been a positive trend that coorlates to the increase of diagnosed teens. I am using my website to raise awareness of teens with diabetes. I plan on creating a support group that will raise awareness and help teens think more about their choices when it comes to diet and how to spend their time. Having diabetes dampness the quality of life, and with the alarming number/statistics, awareness is key to decreasing the diagnosis per year.

Video PSA Reflection

When creating my PSA, I ran into a few small but manageable issues. I had the biggest issue with the duration of my Video PSA. I had to reduce it from 2 minutes to 1 minute.  Due to the nature of the video I had to find a balance between seriousness and urgency. This balance was managed through the variation of pictures and text chosen. Creating a serious and semi depressing PSA was not easy. After making the PSA, I had to find an appropriate song selection to move the viewers of my PSA. I had asked RCHS student to help assist with choosing an appropriate song. This video PSA came out well in my opinion.

Capstone Media's and Plan

Due to the sensitivity of my capstone I will not use humor to address my audience. I will use a serious tone with a sense of urgency to get my different points to my audience. I will use a simple layout that is symmetrical to present my material to my audience. I plan on using simple colors like blue, red white and gray. I would like to involve other RCHS students by using them on my website and poster. My site will not be a persuasive site, it will be an informational site that will help the audience learn and understand about how diabetes affects the lives of millions Americans.  My capstone will be presented amongst many media’s such as website, poster and brochures. I have not come up with the whole capstone yet, but when I do, I will be able to better answer the questions. 

Capstone Blog Entry

The purpose of my capstone is make teenagers more aware of different types of diseases. I have chosen to help teenagers learn the different causes and effects that Type I and Type II diabetes has on people’s lives. The goal of my project is to make teenagers more aware and help them learn different methods to prevent diabetes. Teenagers can learn by seminars and activities held in the community and learn ways to practice healthy dieting and living a more active lifestyle. As the rate for obesity rises, so does the mortality from diabetes. People should be concerned as many more teenagers are being diagnosed with diabetes daily. My career and capstone correspond to each other as I am plan on working in the health industry. I haven’t decided what I plan on doing, but nutrition is a possibility. This project will give the community the opportunity to learn about good nutrition and how to keep an active lifestyle in today’s time of technology!
